The long-running show at Tommy Gun’s Garage in Chicago’s South Loop ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic after 31 successful years. Known for its interactive dinner theater set in the 1920s, it featured comedic gangsters and flappers. Pat Pohrte, who played ‘Bugsy,’ was determined to keep this tradition alive. With the blessing of original creators Larry and Sandy Mangen, Pohrte and his partner Mark Virkler (formerly ‘Rocco’) launched a new version of the show called Vito’s Vault.
They moved operations north to Jefferson Park at 5901 W. Lawrence Ave., in a space that was once Galvin’s Public House. The new venue offers a 90-minute audience-participatory musical with a three-course meal, costing $80. Guests have a choice of entrees and can enjoy a cash bar. For one night only, Vito’s Vault will perform in Northwest Indiana on July 23 at Beatniks on Conkey in Hammond. Freddy’s Steakhouse in Kitchen Nightmares Spotlight
Freddy’s Steakhouse in Hammond was featured on the latest season of Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. The owners shared their experience with nearly 8,000 Facebook followers, acknowledging the dramatization of events but vouching for the quality of their meals and commitment to customer service.
The post highlighted the challenges of running a restaurant, including staffing and food costs. Owners Jim and Tammy’s dedication to their business and community was emphasized as well.
Valparaiso Resident Shines on Jeopardy!
Grace Biermann from Valparaiso appeared on Jeopardy! for episodes aired July 21 and 22, 2026. She started strong, winning $32,000 with a correct answer about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Biermann graduated from Valparaiso University and was a library science instructor until 2024.
Her one-day champion status ended when Ryan Dean answered a Final Jeopardy question about the “Blue Danube,” winning the episode with $22,400. More details can be found on jeopardy.com.
