Vincent Pastore, acclaimed for his role in The Sopranos, has died at 80. His manager, Robert Attermann, confirmed the news, stating, “Vinny passed away either yesterday or today at home in The Bronx.” Attermann reminisced, “I represented Vinny for over 30 years, prior to The Sopranos making him famous. To the world, he was ‘Big Pussy,’ but he meant so much more to us who knew him.”
Pastore gained fame from his portrayal of Salvatore ‘Big Pussy’ Bonpensiero on HBO Max’s hit series, where he was integral to Tony Soprano’s inner circle before turning traitor. His notable roles were not limited to The Sopranos; he also appeared in films including Goodfellas, A Bronx Tale, Carlito’s Way, Gotti, Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn, and Mickey Blue Eyes.
Television audiences enjoyed his appearances on series such as Blue Bloods, Law & Order, General Hospital, Bull, Pair of Kings, and Hawaii Five-0. He recently contributed voice work to an episode of Yellowjackets. Attermann highlighted Pastore’s passion, stating, “He loved acting and was always encouraging young actors, generously offering guidance and support.”
Pastore also participated in reality competition shows Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Fit Club, and Celebrity Apprentice. Attermann described him as “one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known,” emphasizing that he never refused a fan seeking a photo or autograph.
“He genuinely appreciated the people who supported him,” Attermann expressed. “Losing Vinny is deeply personal for me. I observed not just his impressive career but also the remarkable person he was over three decades. I’ll miss his friendship, his loyalty, his humor, and his generosity.”
Attermann extended his condolences to Pastore’s family, friends, and fans, acknowledging his lasting impact. “He leaves behind a legacy far beyond his memorable performances,” he said. “He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. May his memory be a blessing.” Vincent Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee.
