Vice President JD Vance’s Remark Sparks Discussion

Vice President JD Vance’s comment about “childless cat ladies” surfaced during President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign. Taylor Swift referenced the comment in her endorsement of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Yet, Beverly Vance, JD Vance’s mother, was unaware of Swift’s reference to her son’s remark.

On April 4, 2025, Vice President JD Vance celebrated his mother, Beverly Aikins, marking ten years of sobriety at the White House. “I had no idea that’s what she was even doing. Until you just said that, I didn’t even put the two together,” Vance shared with a laugh during a recent interview on OutKick’s “Tomi Lahren is Fearless.”

“I just thought it was funny,” Beverly Vance stated. “JD’s just got a sense of humor, and he was making a joke. Obviously, people didn’t take it as a joke, but I know JD, and he just meant it as a joke.”

JD Vance had previously referred to Democrats as “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives” during a 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News. Beverly Vance explained her son’s remark was intended humorously.

Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris and Tim Walz with a post, which included a photo of her with a cat. Swift’s husband, NFL star Travis Kelce, hails from Ohio, like the Vances. Beverly highlighted that Kelce played college football at the University of Cincinnati.
