Vanilla Ice to Perform Despite Other Artists Exiting Great American State Fair

Vanilla Ice is set to perform at the Great American State Fair’s Freedom 250 concerts after other acts withdrew. The 58-year-old rapper expressed his excitement and honor to perform at the event in a video posted on Instagram. He promised to bring a ’90s vibe to the celebration. Describing the event, he said, ‘It’s all about enjoying the great times of 250 years. From George Washington to now. This is a magical event that’s gonna happen.’ Vanilla Ice remains enthusiastic about the opportunity, stating, ‘This is gonna be epic.’

In his Instagram caption, he referred to the concert as an ‘epic party’ designed to unite people. The event celebrates America’s 250th anniversary of independence. As noted, ‘We are all one. This is not a political platform. This is celebrating America’s birthday,’ he wrote. He encouraged people to join in the fun and enjoy dancing and great memories, assuring them, ‘Nothing too serious.’

The comments from fans were mixed. Some praised his participation, while others expressed disappointment due to political reasons. Responding to critics, Vanilla Ice emphasized, ‘Music has no political rules. We are just entertainers.’ He mentioned being open to playing for anyone, regardless of political affiliation, if invited.

The Great American State Fair is a national event held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., scheduled from June 25 to July 10, 2026. It is part of the nation’s 250th-anniversary celebration named America 250. Many artists initially lined up for the event have backed out, including Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day and the Time, and C+C Music Factory. Martina McBride, a country singer, also withdrew, explaining her decision in a statement on social platform X.

McBride shared her disappointment, stating, ‘I’ve spent my entire career singing songs about real people with real issues. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to be a voice for those who have felt like they didn’t have one. It greatly upsets me that any fan who has been moved by my music may now feel like I’m abandoning the meaning behind those songs.’

Her announcement met with online criticism. Some accused her of yielding to external pressures, while others labeled her decision as cowardly.
