American farmers are looking forward to a significant harvest in 2026, with abundant yields expected in corn and soybeans. However, an even larger portion of their income will come from federal subsidies.

Last Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins unveiled a substantial funding initiative aimed at domestic fertilizer production, amounting to $500 million. Although it is a considerable amount, this figure pales in comparison to the anticipated $44 billion in federal support projected to be extended to farmers by the end of 2026. This federal assistance will account for over one-fourth of the estimated net farm income.
