A mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona, has resulted in nine individuals being wounded, according to police reports. Officers responded by shooting the suspected gunman at the scene, who was subsequently taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. on Sunday when officers on patrol heard gunfire in the 100 block of East Congress Street. This area is known for its vibrant nightlife, with numerous bars and restaurants. Frank Magos from the Tucson Police Department stated at a news conference that the officers immediately ran towards the gunfire and encountered the suspect. Despite repeated commands given by the officers, one of them fired at the suspect, incapacitating him. No officers were harmed during the incident.

Emergency aid was provided by officers to the nine injured individuals on-site before transporting them to the hospital. Magos revealed that most victims sustained gunshot wounds to their extremities, and all were adults.

Police are seeking assistance from the public and emphasized that the crime scene is extensive. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will take the lead in investigating the shooting.
