President Donald Trump recently highlighted his views on biological males competing in girls’ and women’s sports, drawing on an encounter with Jaxson Dart, a quarterback for the New York Giants. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump recounted his meeting with Dart, which sparked backlash from some Giants fans and defensive lineman Abdul Carter.
“He’s a big, strong guy, and I asked, ‘How do you think you’d do at women’s sports?’ and he replied, ‘Pretty good, sir,’ unaware that I was joking,” Trump said. Trump’s exchange with Dart was part of his broader point that biological men could dominate women’s sports, saying Dart could have been “the greatest athlete in the history of women’s sports.”
Dart introduced Trump at an event in New York in late April. Despite criticism, Dart explained his perspective, emphasizing the significance of engaging with the U.S. president. “Being able to introduce the president was a unique opportunity, respecting the position itself, beyond political affiliations,” Dart stated.
Following an online uproar, particularly on social media, Carter commented that he initially assumed a video of Dart and Trump together was “AI-generated.” Both athletes discussed the incident with the media, showcasing their camaraderie.
“We talked through it,” Dart mentioned, highlighting their longstanding friendship and shared experiences throughout their careers. “We’ve faced challenges together and continue to support each other.”
The event at Rockland Community College saw Trump gather with Dart to discuss economic achievements in a closely contested congressional district. This district is represented by Rep. Mike Lawler, who faces reelection in the upcoming November midterms.
Carter reflected on the situation, saying, “Stand on your beliefs. It’s important to respect each other’s positions. As long as we have that understanding, it’s all good.” The conversation takes place as the Supreme Court is poised to issue rulings on important cases involving transgender athletes in women’s sports.
