President Donald Trump appeared at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with a series of pointed jokes and critiques. Among his targets were Robert F. Kennedy Jr., several late-night TV hosts, and Representative Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
The dinner, initially rescheduled, offered Trump a platform for humor and criticism. Fox News’ Christina Coleman detailed the memorable parts of the event, focusing on Trump’s sharp remarks.
A transgender influencer responded to Trump’s joke. The humor compared the influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins. Mulvaney’s response highlighted the perceived backhanded compliment. Mulvaney stated, “Maybe being publicly mocked and criticized by this administration is actually like the greatest compliment of all.” The comments were shared in a TikTok post on Sunday. Mulvaney recognized the mention as placing them among notable empathetic individuals.
Mulvaney, previously prominent in social media, has maintained a lower profile since an advertising issue. The controversy involved Bud Light and notably affected the beer company’s stock value. This partnership, centered around the March Madness event, led to heightened public reaction and a financial decrease exceeding $27 billion for Anheuser-Busch. Mulvaney referred to the reaction as a “mind game.”
“To the president, thank you for reminding me that I am more powerful than I even knew,” stated Mulvaney, aligning themselves with thoughts from favorite artist Shea Diamond. “I am America.”
The WHCA Dinner saw Trump reflecting on Kaitlan Collins. In his remarks, Trump compared Collins to Mulvaney, referencing TikTok content about gender transition. Trump’s jokes extended to Collins’ demeanor, suggesting she should smile more, despite her CNN affiliation. “You should be a happy person. So smile, Kaitlan. Just smile,” Trump remarked.
Collins reportedly addressed the dinner’s mention through an Instagram post. Featuring Eleanor Roosevelt’s quote, it read, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
Following the event, CNN’s representatives affirmed their support for their journalists. On X, CNN stated their commitment to fair journalism without political influence. The statement by Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson underlined CNN’s dedication to coverage integrity.
Journalist Peter D’Abrosca provided coverage of the event as part of Fox News Digital.
