Michigan officials have identified the couple and their six children found dead inside their burning home in Grand Haven Township. Authorities are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the family consisted of Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39, along with their six children. The children’s names have not been disclosed, but they include four boys aged 15, 12, 11, and 5, and two girls aged 11, two of whom were adopted.

Authorities confirmed that all eight family members suffered gunshot wounds. Kristopher Karolkiewicz is suspected of both the murders and subsequently starting the house fire.

“The cause and origin of the residential fire remain under investigation by Michigan State Police arson investigators. Preliminary indications suggest the fire was set in numerous places throughout the interior of the residence,” the sheriff’s office stated.

The tragic incident also claimed the lives of the family pets due to fire and smoke. Amanda and her adopted daughters had recently returned from a vacation in China, as shared on her TikTok account.

The Grand Haven Fire Department initially responded to smoke reports between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Friday but could not locate a fire. They returned before noon after reports of white smoke emanating from a home on Riverside Trail.

Amanda’s stepfather, Steve Lawwill, shared his grief, expressing gratitude for the joy the family brought into their lives and highlighted the deep sadness felt by their sudden loss.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there are no additional suspects in the case.
