The trailer for Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 5 showcases the return of Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the beloved gang. Starring Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Greta Lee, and Conan O’Brien, the film hits theaters on June 19.
Plot Overview
Bonnie, the eight-year-old from the previous movie, is spotlighted as the story centers on her relationship with toys amidst a technology-driven world. She remains among the few children engaging with toys instead of devices, leading to social struggles. To aid her, Bonnie’s parents introduce a kid-friendly tablet named Lilypad.
This shift creates tension among Bonnie’s toys. They quickly learn from discarded toys that technology might end the era of traditional playthings.
Key Characters and Cast
Joan Cusack returns as Jessie, who takes center stage in this installment. She leads the toys in confronting the digital threat posed by Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. Despite returning, Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise their roles with less focus.
Familiar faces such as Rex, Hamm, Bo Peep, and Forky are joined by new characters like Smarty Pants, voiced by Conan O’Brien. The cast also includes Keanu Reeves, Bonnie Hunt, Craig Robinson, and others.
Production Insights
Two-time Oscar winner Andrew Stanton, known for Finding Nemo and WALL-E, along with McKenna Harris, leads the creative team. Randy Newman returns for the musical score, with an original song by Taylor Swift featured during the end credits.
Film Reception
While not surpassing the original trilogy, Toy Story 5 offers a significant improvement over its 2019 predecessor. The movie adequately incorporates the ongoing tech discourse, providing the quality entertainment Pixar is renowned for.
Rated PG for thematic elements and humor, Toy Story 5 runs for 1 hour and 42 minutes and is now available in theaters.
