Tim Ream, captain of the U.S. men’s national soccer team, speaks confidently about the team’s World Cup aspirations. At 38, Ream shows no hesitation in aiming to win the tournament.
Setting High Goals
Ream emphasizes the team’s ambition to win the World Cup, stating he sees no reason to hide their goals. In an interview with Fox News Digital, he said, “The mindset is let’s win the thing. Let’s win the World Cup.” He believes every team’s ultimate goal is victory and that the U.S. team shares this intent.
In 2022, despite limited experience, the U.S. reached the Round of 16. Ream highlights the desire to build on this achievement. From the beginning of training, the focus has been on winning it all.
A Different Experience
Ream notes a distinguishing feature of his selection process this year compared to 2022. Previously, he joined the team unexpectedly and last minute. This time, anticipation lingered, making the wait feel prolonged.
“I would say it was relief this time around. It was such a long drawn-out… process,” he remarked.
Upon selection, Ream immediately informed his wife, feeling a sense of relief and validation for his efforts since 2022.
Playing at Home
Holding the World Cup in the U.S. adds significance, but Ream notes the expectations remain constant regardless of venue. He points out that full stadiums of U.S. supporters are a hopeful prospect. The presence of enthusiastic fans nationwide brings additional energy and excitement to each match.
Ream aims to savor every moment of the tournament and test the team’s limits.
Planning Beyond 2026
At 38, Ream acknowledges he hasn’t considered if this will be his last World Cup. Although aware of his age, he focuses on the current experience without looking too far ahead. “Once the World Cup finishes, then I’ll think about where I go from there,” he stated.
Personal Endeavor
Outside of soccer, Ream partners with Goodnites, an underwear brand aiding children who experience bedwetting. Having dealt with it himself until age 11, Ream knows the challenge firsthand. He supports children through the initiative, highlighting that bedwetting is common and not a source of shame.
As a father of three, Ream continues to assert confidence in his children by using Goodnites, reinforcing their self-esteem. “It’s really as easy as saying, ‘Hey, listen, boys, we’re going to wear these tonight… It’s nothing to be ashamed of,” he says.
