Sara Gilson, a TikTok influencer known as Sara Duffey, was found dead alongside her estranged husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, in Owasso, Oklahoma. The authorities are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.
Before the tragedy, Gilson had posted on TikTok, accusing her husband of being a pedophile. This accusation was made in a video she shared on July 11, where she referenced the potential for a future Netflix documentary about him.
A child in the residence called 911, informing the dispatcher that “his step-father had shot his mother.” Investigations revealed a history of alleged abuse in the relationship.
Lyle Landers, Gilson’s ex-husband, shared that he had consistently urged her to leave the relationship. “She had been stuck in a relationship where domestic abuse seemed ‘OK’. I had begged her for five years to get away from him,” Landers stated. He emphasized her devotion to her children and her willingness to protect them, even if it put her life at risk.
On June 9, police received a report from a parent and child, accusing Jeremiah Shawn Duffey of inappropriate conduct at a school event. Similar allegations had been made against him previously, involving minor lewd molestation accusations.
In response to these events, Sara Duffey filed an emergency protective order against her husband. Another protective order was filed by a different woman, accusing Duffey of improper actions with her 15-year-old daughter, who was a player on the basketball team he coached. The Oklahoman reported that he allegedly attempted to silence her with money.
