The Golden Girls Kitchen Revives Nostalgia in Texas

The cherished world of “The Golden Girls” is seeing a revival in Texas. A pop-up event invites fans to step back into the sitcom’s familiar Miami setting. The Golden Girls Kitchen in Austin operates from August 20 through November 8. It blends recognizable settings with food linked to the series. You can enjoy cheesecake flights, Cuban sandwiches, Sal’s Sicilian meatball sub, and Miami-style cookies, according to event booking platform Bucket Listers.

Celebrating Nostalgia

The pop-up capitalizes on enduring nostalgia surrounding the sitcom. The show featured Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty as four friends living together in Miami.

Betty White played Rose Nylund, Bea Arthur was Dorothy Petrillo Zbornak, Estelle Getty portrayed Sophia Petrillo, and Rue McClanahan was Blanche Devereaux. A notable episode featuring these characters is “Whose Face Is This, Anyway?”

The show is remembered for the friendship among Rose, Dorothy, Blanche, and Sophia, highlighted by conversations around the kitchen table.

Cheesecake was often central to those moments, becoming one of the sitcom’s defining traditions. The women frequently gathered over slices of cheesecake to discuss relationships, family issues, and life’s peaks and valleys.

The Austin Pop-Up Experience

The Austin pop-up honors this tradition with cheesecake flights and other dishes inspired by the show and its Miami setting. The recreated settings include the familiar kitchen, complete with the well-known yellow telephone.

Past versions have been presented in cities such as New York City, San Diego, and Atlanta. Reactions suggest a strong appeal in nostalgia and the accuracy of the details resembling the original series.

One Reddit user who visited the New York City event remarked, “Everything was SO realistic,” particularly highlighting the kitchen, porch, and Rusty Anchor settings.

“Every 20 minutes, the theme song played, and everyone there sang along!” the user shared.

Another attendee enjoyed the décor but felt the food needed improvement. “We had a blast but the food definitely was not it,” the user noted, although the cheesecake was appreciated despite being partially frozen.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Golden Girls Kitchen for comment. Kelly McGreal, part of the lifestyle team at Fox News Digital, contributed to the report.
