The parents of University of Idaho student Kaylee Goncalves recently shared the enduring pain they face since the loss of their daughter. They described their morning thoughts and nightly prayers in an interview with Sean Hannity on his podcast.

Kristi and Steve Goncalves spoke about their emotional challenges as Bryan Kohberger, the individual convicted of murdering four University of Idaho students in 2022, seeks to withdraw his guilty plea.

Every morning, I ask myself if this will ever end, Kristi shared with Hannity. At this point, I’ve accepted it as a new way of life.

Kaylee was among the victims killed in November 2022. Kohberger admitted to charges that included four counts of first-degree murder in July 2025 to avoid a death sentence. However, he is now attempting to retract this plea.

Steve Goncalves added that each night, Kristi prays that Kaylee visits her in her dreams to express her love. He explained the ongoing disappointment when Kristi wakes up without this dream, forcing herself to continue through the day.

Kohberger’s move to withdraw his plea poses a new challenge for the Goncalves family. He had been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. However, he now claims he received inadequate legal advice and was misled about potential benefits regarding prison conditions. He insists he is innocent.

The family finds Kohberger’s appeal tough during their prolonged legal ordeal. Yet, Kristi Goncalves sees it as a chance for prosecutors to seek the death penalty again. Maybe this second chance is to ensure everything is done right, she remarked.
