A 16-year-old girl in Tennessee faces criminal charges after rushing onto a football field and tackling a middle school player. This incident was captured on video and has since gone viral, officials stated on Wednesday.
The event took place during a game between South Middle School and Cornersville Middle School at the South’s home field located at Franklin County High School. The incident happened right after South scored a touchdown, with penalty flags flying for actions behind the play.
The girl suddenly appeared and tackled a South player. Although the player initially stood up, the girl quickly pushed him back down. Coaches and teammates intervened to separate her from the player.
“A fan ran onto the field and tackled a player,” according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office statement. “The referees immediately ended the game and cleared the field. The stadium was emptied without further incident, and no one was injured.”
The 16-year-old suspect has been released to her parents and now faces charges of assault and disorderly conduct. She has been banned from all Franklin County School System properties and cannot attend any Cornersville games, both home and away, for one year.
The game was in its third quarter when the tackle occurred, leading to South being declared the winner with a 35-0 score.
