U.S. Marshals have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in Colorado in connection with the murder of Penn State student Billy Schmidt. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into Schmidt’s fatal shooting during a robbery on June 6 in Philadelphia. Both 16-year-olds involved will face adult charges for the robbery and shooting, according to Philadelphia police. Meanwhile, the second suspect, Kaiseem Smith, remains at large, and authorities have issued a wanted notice for him.

The U.S. Marshals Service is also looking for Khadfi Fleming, aged 19, who is wanted in connection with another recent violent crime in Philadelphia. Fleming is a person of interest in an aggravated assault of an off-duty police officer. This incident occurred as suspected car thieves targeted the officer’s Dodge Charger. The confrontation led to an exchange of gunfire, though nobody was reportedly injured. The Charger was later found with damage, alongside several 9mm shell casings. The suspects moved to a stolen Lexus that was later abandoned.

“USMS Philly is offering an immediate cash reward for Khadfi Fleming, 19, wanted for robbery,” the agency stated, highlighting his involvement as a “person of interest” in the attack.

Authorities had already been searching for Fleming before this incident, tying him to the June murder of Billy Schmidt. Schmidt, a 22-year-old Penn State student, was shot near his home while returning from an NBA Finals viewing party. Surveillance footage revealed Schmidt asking for his stolen phone before the shooting occurred.

Azzubair Outen-Fleming, Khadfi Fleming’s younger brother, was arrested a month after the murder in Colorado Springs. He was discovered at a relative’s home and attempted to hide his identity. A charge of murder awaits him;

The authorities continue to seek Kaiseem Smith, who has surrendered to Philadelphia police, and the search for Khadfi Fleming continues. Billy Schmidt had been a promising student in digital journalism at Penn State, expected to graduate in December. His death has prompted a thorough investigation to ensure justice for the crime.
