Taylor Sheridan, the acclaimed writer and director, had plans to retire before the purchase of a significant property changed his plans. Speaking on the “Rodeo Time” podcast, the 56-year-old shared how buying the Four Sixes Ranch for $330 million reshaped his career trajectory. Initially, Sheridan intended to retire after “Yellowstone.” Having already bought a ranch in Weatherford, Texas, he was ready to relax and enjoy his hobbies.
However, the decision to buy the Four Sixes Ranch required serious considerations. Sheridan needed to ensure the ranch’s general manager was committed to managing daily operations. Additionally, he wanted confirmation that his son would be prepared to oversee the ranch in the future.
Before purchasing the property, Sheridan discovered it had been put up for sale following the death of its previous owner, Anne Marion. Marion had not left the ranch to her daughter. Instead, she requested it be sold to someone who would uphold her vision. That responsibility, Sheridan learned, would fall to him.
The ranch served as a backdrop for episodes in Season 4 of “Yellowstone.” Upon realizing he didn’t have the funds needed for the purchase, Sheridan turned to Paramount. The network had long pursued a deal with him, fearing he might leave for other opportunities. When Sheridan expressed his willingness to enter an exclusive contract, he secured the necessary funds.
The acquisition was finalized on January 21, 2022. This change opened a new chapter in Sheridan’s career. Following his agreement with Paramount, Sheridan developed a series of successful shows, including “Mayor of Kingstown,” “1883,” “1923,” “Lioness,” and “Tulsa King.”
Michael Kelly, a star of “Lioness,” commended Sheridan’s talent in a recent interview. Kelly praised Sheridan’s storytelling, labeling him as one of the smartest and most innovative creators in the industry today.
