Stockard Channing, known for her role in “Practical Magic,” made a rare appearance on the red carpet for the first time in two years. The 82-year-old actress attended the European premiere of “Practical Magic 2” at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on August 26. Channing, who has embraced a more reclusive lifestyle in the United Kingdom, appeared radiant as she posed for photographers.
Earlier in the year, Channing discussed her contentment with a private life following the passing of her longtime partner. She shared that she’s “happy being a recluse” during a reflection on her quieter lifestyle after leaving the U.S. Channing moved to London just before the COVID-19 pandemic, a decision she had considered after the death of her partner, Daniel Gillham, in 2014.
In the anticipated sequel to “Practical Magic,” Channing reprises her role as Aunt Franny. She donned a stylish blue suit paired with a white button-down shirt and chain-link jewelry to mark her return to the public eye. The day after the premiere, she impressed many with a monochromatic emerald green outfit during a photo call in London. “Practical Magic 2” will bring together stars Nicole Kidman, Sandra Bullock, and Dianne Wiest, 28 years after the first movie’s debut.
In an essay for The Sunday Times, Channing discussed her life changes after Gillham’s death, which she described as more impactful than she initially perceived. The loss prompted a shift in her lifestyle, leading her to relocate from Maine to London, a decision that also vaguely coincided with political changes in the U.S.
Channing’s current lifestyle differs from her years in stardom. Her day typically starts at 7 a.m. when her dog wakes her. Though she engages in some exercise by 10 a.m., she confessed that her preferred exercise days are when she plays “hooky.” She said that exercising is necessary, but she often prefers to avoid it.
Her morning routine generally includes lunch as the first meal of the day. She attempts recipes but humorously admits to giving her dog the result when they don’t turn out well. While her wardrobe may include designer outfits from past decades, she emphasizes that looking a certain way isn’t a priority. She stated, “I’m just me, take it or leave it.”
