Stabbing in Times Square Leads to Police Shooting

A woman armed with a knife attacked two individuals in Times Square on Monday afternoon, prompting a police response, according to authorities. The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue.

Authorities described the woman as emotionally disturbed. She stabbed a man and a woman before attempting to flee north toward a police substation. Officers confronted her as she wielded two knives.

Police said they initially used a Taser to try to subdue the assailant. Despite this, she continued to approach them with the knives, leading police to fire at her. Both the victims of the stabbing and the suspect were hospitalized. Their medical conditions were not immediately available.

The NYPD advised the public to avoid the area around West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue due to the ongoing investigation. Police mentioned that the incident did not appear to be linked to terrorism. There was no immediate information about injuries to officers during the confrontation.
