A union representing 2,000 workers at Los Angeles’s SoFi Stadium has decided to authorize a potential labor strike. This move comes as they seek protection from potential immigration enforcement during the upcoming World Cup.
The decision does not mean an immediate work stoppage. However, the authorization grants workers the freedom to initiate a strike if necessary. The announcement emerged on Friday, only a week before the opening match for the U.S. team.
On May 27, immigrant rights advocates and labor groups gathered to protest outside the offices of the FIFA Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee. Their demonstration emphasized the need for labor protection amid concerns about immigration enforcement.
