Torrential rain in central Texas has resulted in dangerous flash flooding, leading to the rescue of dozens from rising waters. Authorities have been actively responding to the crisis, including Texas Game Wardens who were captured in a video saving a family trapped by the flood.

More than 40 individuals have been rescued from homes and submerged vehicles, with some vehicles swept off the roads. Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed at least one death due to the widespread flooding across the state.

In Uvalde, police advised residents near the Leona River to relocate to higher ground, warning of a potential 20-foot wall of water. The river overflow contributed significantly to the flooding threat.

Reports indicate over a foot of rain has fallen since Monday, with some areas experiencing rainfall at rates as high as three inches per hour. This deluge has flooded streets and enveloped vehicles in water.

Ryan Whaley from Boerne commented on the severity of the flooding, noting swift water levels that prompted Texas Game Wardens to engage in water rescues. Meanwhile, the Boerne Fire Department rescued a woman from floodwaters, illustrating the intensity of the situation.

Residents described the Medina River as typically shallow, but the heavy rainfall has significantly increased its volume, influenced by surrounding creeks and springs. The high water levels even carried deer through flooded creek areas.

Chris Shadrock, Boerne’s director of communications and civic engagement, highlighted the seriousness of the flooding conditions, stating they are the worst since 2015.

The storm also generated a tornado near San Antonio, reportedly causing power transformers to spark along a nearby highway. Winds reaching up to 100 mph damaged buildings, including ripping off parts of an apartment’s roof.
