Search Intensifies for Missing Giraffe in Texas

Gracie, a giraffe living on a Texas ranch, has gone missing, sparking a widespread search effort. Gracie is noted for her impressive physical features, including a neck the size of an adult human and long legs, complemented by an unforgettable coat.

Her disappearance from Cedar Hollow Ranch in Real County has led property managers and officials to ramp up search efforts. A recent tip failed to yield results, but the search is expected to persist. Gracie’s owner is offering a $5,000 reward for information that could lead to her safe capture and return.

The Location and Background

Gracie was last detected west of Leakey, which is about 100 miles northwest of San Antonio, according to local officials. Vick Jones, the ranch manager, shared details about Gracie, noting she is between 3 and 4 years old and has lived on the ranch since May.

Cedar Hollow Ranch hosts several hundred animals, including species such as impalas, Nubian ibexes, and antelopes native to Central Africa. Gracie disappeared after venturing to a hillside for feeding, which typically isn’t frequented by other giraffes at the ranch. She subsequently passed through an unfenced area past an 8-foot gate and exited the premises.

Search Efforts

Jones stated that he followed up on a tip by searching approximately 4 miles from the ranch, armed with photos provided by an informant. Unfortunately, the pictures were several days old, and Gracie was not found in the area.

The search will be ongoing, and Jones expressed a determination to find Gracie, stating, “Everybody in the whole world seems to be looking for her.”
