Scottie Scheffler’s Insights From Playing With Tiger Woods at the Masters

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler addressed the media during a press conference before his first round at the Tour Championship. He is set to compete for his second-career FedExCup trophy at East Lake.

During his talk with reporters, Scheffler recalled an unforgettable moment he shared with Tiger Woods at the 2020 Masters. In their only competitive round together, Woods recorded a career-worst score of 10 on the par-3 12th at Augusta National. Despite this setback, Woods demonstrated resilience by birdieing five of his last six holes.

On Wednesday, Scheffler reflected on Woods’ remarkable mentality. “When I talk about competitive instincts and about intensity each week, that’s stuff I learned just by watching Tiger,” Scheffler said. “I’ve only played with him once in competition — it was at the Masters… I just remember walking up to that first green watching him read his first putt and I was like, ‘Holy smokes, this guy is into it.’ That was my main takeaway, just the intensity that he brought to each and every shot. That’s definitely something I’ve tried to model in my game.”

Scheffler’s recent performances reinforce his competitive prowess. He won the first tournament of the 2026 playoffs, claiming the top position at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Last week, he secured a T12 finish at the BMW Championship.

On Thursday, Scheffler will tee off at 2 p.m. ET, playing alongside Matt Fitzpatrick.
