San Francisco’s CEO Tax Vote: A Shift in Public Opinion

Over the past six years, San Francisco’s political landscape has undergone noticeable changes. A significant example occurred in 2020 when residents voted in favor of implementing a tax targeting highly paid CEOs. This tax, dubbed the ‘overpaid CEO tax,’ was approved with a convincing 30-point margin, reflecting the city’s demand for economic equity.

However, in a recent twist, a new proposal aimed at expanding this tax did not achieve the same level of support. Despite backing from unions, the initiative failed by a margin of six points. This outcome suggests a shift in voter sentiment since the original tax’s approval.
