San Antonio Spurs Even Series with Dominant Game 4 Win

The San Antonio Spurs leveled the Western Conference Finals with an assertive win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, ending the game with a score of 103-82 on Sunday night. With the series tied at two games each, Game 5 in Oklahoma City will be crucial in determining which team takes the advantage.

A key factor in the game was the Thunder’s 3-point shooting. They had excelled in Game 3, hitting 44.7% of their 3s and 48.1% from the field. However, the Spurs improved their defense significantly in Game 4, limiting the Thunder to only 6 of 33 shots from beyond the arc, or 18%, leading to a field goal percentage of just 33%.

The Spurs themselves made 27% of their 3-pointers, but their aggressiveness paid off, allowing them to attempt 32 free throws compared to the Thunder’s 18. This approach led to an early nine-point lead after the first quarter, which expanded to double digits by halftime.

San Antonio capitalized on Oklahoma City’s struggles in the third quarter. The Thunder’s turnovers became opportunities for the Spurs, who scored 25 points off 20 turnovers. At one stage, the Spurs held a 25-point lead.

Victor Wembanyama was pivotal, scoring 33 points on 11 of 22 shooting, along with eight rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and De’Aaron Fox also contributed significantly, while the bench added valuable points, including Dylan Harper’s seven points and five rebounds.

Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled, landing only six out of 15 shots, though he was perfect from the free throw line. Despite solid efforts from the bench, players Aaron Wiggins and Jared McCain missed the mark, combining for a poor 3 of 21 from the field.

The Spurs and Thunder will face off again on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. ET in Game 5. The winner will gain the upper hand as the series progresses.
