Rob Reiner Wins Posthumous Emmy and Sets a Record

Emmy voters recently honored Rob Reiner, awarding him the Emmy for best guest actor in a comedy series for his role on “The Bear.” This recognition came almost a year after his death. Reiner’s win represents the longest span between two acting Emmy victories in TV Academy history. His first Emmy was for his role in the iconic Norman Lear sitcom “All in the Family” nearly fifty years ago. Previously, his father Carl Reiner held the record for this achievement.

In “The Bear,” Reiner portrayed Albert Schnurr, a restaurant consultant, demonstrating his diverse acting skills. The announcement of his win was made at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremony on September 6. Wendi McLendon-Covey accepted the award on Reiner’s behalf, leading to a standing ovation from the audience.

Rob Reiner is the first person to posthumously receive an Emmy for an on-camera role since Raúl Juliá, who won for his performance in the television movie “The Burning Season” in 1995. Tragically, Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed in December at their Los Angeles home.
