A California man inadvertently left a backpack containing a substantial amount of suspected methamphetamine in a rideshare vehicle. This led to its recovery by authorities, as stated in a news release from the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).

The incident began when a rideshare driver found the backpack and alerted officers. Authorities recovered approximately three-quarters of a pound of suspected meth, valued at over $30,000 on the street, based on typical pricing of $100 per gram.

A suspect’s rideshare trip took an unexpected turn after he left behind a bag containing more than 300 grams of methamphetamine,” SFPD stated.

The event occurred near San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, known for issues with open-air drugs, homelessness, and crime. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jessie Ottman-Comb from Sacramento, was swiftly located by police after collaborating with the rideshare driver to arrange the backpack’s return.

At the motel where Ottman-Comb stayed, a search yielded two cellphones, two tablets, and drug paraphernalia, all seized alongside the methamphetamine found in the vehicle.

In total, police recovered 355.7 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Ottman-Comb faces charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and transportation or sale of methamphetamine. The investigation is ongoing.
