The house, dating back many years and having undergone several extensions, had multiple attics, with only three accessible.

“I knew there was an attic over the garage, but the only access I could find was a little access panel in the garage ceiling,” he explained. Upon investigating further, he discovered a staircase leading to the hidden room. Despite a stale and uninviting smell, the space was a remarkable find, untarnished by recent use.

“The current owner had only lived there about five years and didn’t know it was there!”

Edmiston shared this discovery in a video on his Instagram page, @portlandpropertyinspectors, showcasing a furnished office complete with essential items like chairs, lights, desks, and a crucial ladder. This ladder indicated an access point, which was cleverly tucked behind a drawer that swung open, granting entry to the secret space.

Edmiston chose to reveal the room to the potential buyers at the end of the inspection. Describing the moment as “very entertaining,” he handed the buyer a flashlight to pull on a bookcase, which revealed the concealed entryway. The couple, initially apprehensive, was thrilled by what they discovered.
