President Trump is scheduled to deliver the keynote address on the opening night of the Republican National Committee Midterm Convention in Dallas. This event, taking place ahead of November’s elections, aims to energize party members. Vice President JD Vance, a potential successor to Trump, will headline the second evening.
Other attendees considering future presidential bids will also participate. RNC officials have confirmed a diverse lineup of speakers, including Cabinet secretaries, Republican congressional leaders, and key candidates in upcoming House, Senate, and gubernatorial races. While exact speaking times remain unannounced, additional speakers are expected.
Axios initially reported the list of confirmed speakers. This includes former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, now an adviser to Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Attorney General Todd Blanche, and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Absent from the speaker list are Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Trump has mentioned Rubio as a potential running mate for Vance or a future presidential candidate. Recent reports suggest Hegseth may have White House ambitions, which his aides deny.
Within Capitol Hill leadership, House Speaker Mike Johnson and Sen. John Barrasso, the second-ranking GOP senator, are set to appear. However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who has publicly clashed with Trump, will not speak but plans to attend fundraisers in Dallas. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who has mentioned doubts about Vance’s uncontested 2028 run, is invited to speak, as is Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Paxton faces challenges in polls and fundraising against his Democratic opponent James Talarico. Trump’s super PAC recently contributed $10 million to Paxton’s campaign.
Additionally, Texas Governor Greg Abbott will speak. Recent polls reveal Abbott’s narrow lead over his Democratic opponent Gina Hinojosa.
