President Trump Surveys Construction Projects in Capital

President Donald Trump recently examined several construction developments in the Washington D.C. area. He proposed that the East Potomac Golf Links, once redeveloped, could host prestigious golf tournaments.

Trump announced on social media that the course would be capable of hosting events such as The U.S. Open, The Ryder Cup, and The PGA Championship, among others. Accompanying him were Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, aides, and golf course architects Tom Fazio and his son, Gavin Fazio.

The redevelopment of the golf course is currently involved in a legal dispute in the U.S. District Court. It remains uncertain when the course might host a major tournament, given venues are often selected years in advance. For example, locations for the U.S. Open are booked until 2051, with openings in 2043, 2046, and 2048. The PGA Championship venues are scheduled until 2035.

Trump raised concerns about the condition of the grass and the sprinkler system at the public golf course. Additionally, debris from the dismantling of the White House East Wing has been left on the grounds. The National Park Service previously confirmed that this debris contains lead, chromium, and other harmful metals.

Trump stated that refurbishment work on the golf course is set to commence on September 1.

The President also reviewed changes in Lafayette Park near the White House and took a motorcade tour around the future site of a triumphal arch he plans to erect.

Separately, Trump mentioned a planned meeting with Janeese Lewis George, the winner of the Democratic primary for Washington D.C.’s mayor. He referred to Lewis George as a “Communist” in his post.

In a recent news conference, Lewis George expressed her willingness to collaborate with the president for the welfare of D.C. citizens. However, she emphasized her commitment to her duties and her refusal to accede to requests that might undermine the autonomy of the locally elected government.
