Prank missing-person posters featuring Senator Mitch McConnell have emerged in Washington D.C. as he continues to be absent from Congress due to hospitalization. The posters highlight the Kentucky Republican’s ongoing hospital stay.

The posters prominently display the words “MISSING PERSON” in large red letters above an image showing McConnell in a hospital bed. The description reads: “84 years old. 5’9 feet. Turtle-like.”

The Save America Movement, a group identifying as “citizen-led and aimed at defending democracy and restoring common sense,” created and distributed these posters. An image shared by the group on X includes the caption: “Known for: Blocking something in the Senate. Distinguishing features: Tortoise like appearance.”

McConnell’s absence has persisted for several weeks as concerns regarding his health persist. He entered the hospital in mid-June following a fall and “a mild case of pneumonia.”

I’m still working hard to get back to my full schedule of work in the Senate and in Kentucky, keeping up with intense physical therapy per my doctors’ orders, McConnell stated in a message from his office released on Monday.

A spokesperson for the Save America group explained to The Independent, “We put those flyers up because this has gotten absurd. For over a month, the senior senator from Kentucky hasn’t cast a vote or participated in the chamber’s work, failing to represent the four and a half million people who elected him.”

Some lawmakers are expressing frustration over McConnell’s absence. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, a Democrat, has urged McConnell to “directly and verbally address the people of Kentucky and provide proof of your capacity to serve, or resign.”
