Police Officers Shot in Hartford Pursuit Leading to Suspect’s Death

Late Friday night, an attempted arrest turned violent near Hartford, Connecticut. Two police officers were injured and a suspect was killed in a series of events that unfolded after Hartford police began investigating alleged illegal activities.

The incident started at approximately 11:07 p.m. when a male suspect fled from the scene. Hartford police officers pursued him, and during a struggle, one officer believed the suspect had a gun in his waistband. The suspect managed to enter a vehicle and drive away, leading to a chase through the city as police shared details about the vehicle with nearby departments.

The pursuit ultimately concluded at Webster Court in Newington, a town south of Hartford, near Rocky Hill. An exchange of gunfire ensued after the suspect exited the car, leaving two officers wounded and the suspect deceased.

The injured officers were identified as Hartford Police Officer Alex Diaz and Rocky Hill Police Officer Jon Escobar. Both were taken to the hospital but were released after treatment, according to local authorities.

A weapon was retrieved at the scene. However, the suspect’s identity and further details about the crime being investigated remain undisclosed. The specifics of the gunfire exchange, including which officers discharged their weapons, are under review.

The Connecticut Office of Inspector General is in charge of examining the use of deadly force. The investigation has engaged multiple agencies due to the chase that transitioned from Hartford to Newington.
