The modern sculpture known as “Blue” has been relocated from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Philanthropist David Rubenstein has purchased the artwork for over $2 million. Rubenstein, who previously served as the chairman of the Kennedy Center but was removed by President Donald Trump in 2025, intends to showcase the sculpture at the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden.
Workers were recently seen preparing to move the last piece of “Blue” from the Kennedy Center’s grounds, marking a significant transition for the sculpture. Rubenstein, who currently chairs the board of trustees at the National Gallery of Art, aims to bring the piece to a wider audience at this new location.
The acquisition was initially reported by the New York Times and highlights Rubenstein’s continued involvement in supporting and promoting the arts. The decision to display “Blue” in the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden aligns with his ongoing efforts to enhance public access to art.
