Patrick Mahomes Sr. Seeks Permission for Travel to Attend Son’s Games

Patrick Mahomes Sr., currently on probation after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated, has taken legal steps to attend his son, Patrick Mahomes’ football games this season. According to FOX10, on Friday, Mahomes Sr. filed a motion in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas. He is seeking permission to travel to watch his son play in Kansas City, Missouri, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

The motion recognizes the requirement for Mahomes Sr. to undergo urinalysis testing before and after each trip and to inform a supervising officer whenever he leaves the state.

“Pat Mahomes, father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was seen at the AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium on January 19, 2020.”

In 2024, Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated, resulting in a five-year probation sentence. In February 2026, he was arrested for violating his probation terms by consuming alcohol, as confirmed by Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman. This led to a two-year extension of his probation.

The motion submitted by Mahomes Sr. highlights his completion of 16 weeks of outpatient treatment and 160 hours of community service. It mentions his compliance with existing probation conditions, monitored by an ankle device, which a Smith County community supervision officer can verify.

“OutKick contacted representatives for Mahomes Sr. but was unable to obtain immediate comments.”

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to open their season against the Denver Broncos in Week 1 on Monday Night Football. While not officially confirmed, Mahomes is anticipated to return to the field. After a surgery in December to address torn knee ligaments, he has been active with the first team during training camp, though he missed playing in any preseason games.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid mentioned Mahomes’ continued participation in practice, stating, “He’s going to keep practicing just like he’s been doing.”
