The New York Rangers’ season opener against the Boston Bruins is fast approaching, prompting the team to place several players on waivers.
According to PuckPedia, the Rangers have listed Urho Vaakanainen, Juuso Parssinen, Dennis Cholowski, and Justin Dowling on waivers.
Urho Vaakanainen, a 27-year-old defenseman, stands out among these players. He played 34 games for New York last season, registering six assists. In the 2024-25 season, after being a 2017 first-round pick, Vaakanainen scored two goals and accumulated 16 points in 51 games, split between the Anaheim Ducks and the Rangers.
Juuso Parssinen appeared in 20 games for the Rangers last season, contributing with two goals, one assist, and a plus-4 rating. Additionally, he scored five goals and seven points in 15 AHL games with the Hartford Wolf Pack during the 2025-26 season.
Dennis Cholowski divided the past season between the New Jersey Devils and the AHL’s Utica Comets. During his 17 games with the Devils, he provided two assists, while in the AHL with Utica, the 2016 first-round pick recorded five assists.
Justin Dowling did not score in two NHL games with the Rangers last season. However, he achieved nine goals and 29 points in 46 AHL games with Hartford.
The situation now raises the question of whether the Rangers might lose any of these players on waivers.
