New Trier High School Commencement for Class of 2026

The 126th annual commencement ceremony for New Trier Township High School’s Class of 2026 took place on Sunday, May 31. The event was held at 3 p.m. at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. Continuing a longstanding Trevian tradition, the 902 graduates dressed in white and black formalwear or white gowns. Long-stemmed red roses added a striking visual contrast against the white or ivory dresses worn.

The ceremony began with Campbell Bach of Wilmette carrying the American flag. Bach expressed honor for the opportunity to represent the country. Peter Tragos, who has served as the superintendent of New Trier Township High School District 203 since July 2025, addressed the graduates from the podium. He remarked, “This commencement may feel like an end, but I can assure you, it’s just the beginning of many great things to come.”

The commencement speaker, Blake O’Donnell from Kenilworth, highlighted, “While we are leaving here with diplomas, we are also taking with us the stamina of a class that has already proven that it can go the distance.” The alumni speaker was Shams Charania from the Class of 2012, a reporter focused on professional basketball.

Two students, Cooper Cohen and Lily Dale, shared insights about their class service project with North Chicago Community Partners. Both students are from Glencoe. They emphasized the collaboration and impact of their project.

Among the graduates were Morgan Zibell of Winnetka, Rachel Elli of Wilmette, Lexi Circ of Kenilworth, and Mia Ascione of Wilmette. Holding their long-stemmed red roses, they expressed that New Trier provided an excellent educational experience. Ascione stated, “I’m sad but I’m also excited for the next chapter. I feel very prepared for college.”

Lexi Circ commented on the quality of education received, summarizing, “It was very good.” Morgan Zibell reflected on the pride associated with being a Trevian, saying, “If anyone asked where you went and you said, ‘New Trier,’ it’s like an honor. It means everything.”
