Netflix’s New Direction in Sports
Netflix is accelerating its investment in sports broadcasting. Recently, they hired former ESPN anchor Elle Duncan as their primary on-air sports host for live events. This was followed by securing Ryan Clark’s The Pivot Podcast on a multi-year agreement. These moves hint at Netflix’s strategy to embrace sports narratives, potentially altering the viewing experience for traditional sports fans.
Dan Dakich, on his podcast, Don’t @ Me, shares insights on how Netflix’s approach, perceived by some as focusing on victimhood, might alienate a segment of its core subscribers.
Thomas Pannone’s Perfect Game
In other sports news, Thomas Pannone achieved a perfect game while pitching for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds on Monday night. Pannone led his team to a 3-0 victory over the Durham Bulls, retiring all 27 batters on 94 pitches. This remarkable feat marks the first single-pitcher perfect game in Minor League Baseball since 2017 and the fifth in the history of the International League.
Pannone’s journey is filled with noteworthy moments. During his time with the Toronto Blue Jays between 2018 and 2019, he nearly pitched a no-hitter in his MLB debut. He also achieved an immaculate inning against Tampa Bay. Since leaving Toronto in 2020, Pannone has played for various minor league teams and the Korean Baseball Organization. He recently made his first Major League appearance in three years with the Milwaukee Brewers.
