Navigating Family Boundaries Before the Wedding

Dear Sahaj,

My fiancé and I are scheduled to marry next month. Recently, his sister informed him of her plans to host a baby naming ceremony while attending our wedding. This ceremony, a Jewish tradition similar to a baptism, is for her child.

We are concerned about this arrangement, as it overlaps with our wedding plans. Setting boundaries during this busy weekend is vital for us. We hope our request is respected and won’t lead to future misunderstandings with my future in-laws.

Her response to our boundary-setting has raised some worries about potential family dynamics in the future.
