NASCAR’s Historic Race at Naval Base Coronado

Racing on a Military Base

This weekend marks a significant event as NASCAR prepares to host its first-ever race on a military installation. The new road course at San Diego’s Naval Base Coronado will feature all three national series. This special occasion coincides with the U.S. Navy’s 250th anniversary celebration.

Tribute to George H.W. Bush

In honor of the former Naval aviator and 41st president of the United States, George H.W. Bush, the Haas Factory Team collaborates with Texas A&M University to unveil a special livery on driver Cole Custer’s No. 41 Chevrolet Camaro. The team aims to pay homage to Bush’s legacy during Sunday’s Anduril 250: Race the Base.

“President Bush lived one of the greatest American lives. We’re all better off today because of what he did for our country. For our team to race the No. 41 in tribute to him is a rare honor,” stated Haas Factory Team President Joe Custer.

Legacy of Service

George H.W. Bush enlisted as a Naval aviator on his 18th birthday during World War II, serving in the Pacific and surviving a shooting incident in 1944. His grandson, Sam Bush LeBlond, expressed that Bush would have treasured this recognition, noting that the values represented by the tribute were integral to his life.

“It represented values that guided him throughout his life: service, duty, and love of country. I know he would be incredibly touched to see his legacy celebrated at Naval Base Coronado,” says Sam Bush LeBlond.

As the NASCAR Cup Series race approaches, excitement builds to witness this homage on the track.
