Executive Order on Federal Jobs
President Donald Trump recently signed an executive order aimed at increasing accountability among federal employees. The order introduces a new employment category for the federal workforce.
Scope of the Order
This new classification will affect approximately 8,000 senior-level career employees. These are individuals in supervisory and policymaking roles. Initial estimates had predicted the changes would affect about 50,000 employees.
Background and Expectations
The Trump administration has focused on holding top federal bureaucrats accountable for several years. However, the scope of this recent order ended up being narrower than many anticipated.
Scott Kupor, head of the Office of Personnel Management, discussed these changes at The Post’s “Building America” summit.
Despite initial larger plans, the realignment affects a smaller segment of the workforce, addressing only the most senior roles within federal employment structures.
