First Lady Melania Trump has announced a significant scholarship initiative aimed at supporting young individuals transitioning from foster care. The initiative, named Fostering the Future, was unveiled in partnership with Fox Corporation and IndyCar, committing $2 million towards academic opportunities.
Fox Corporation and IndyCar have each contributed $1 million to fund higher education scholarships. These scholarships are available at Indiana University and Purdue University specifically for those with experience in the foster care system.
The announcement took place at the White House, coinciding with the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C. This collaboration underscores the relationship between education and sports.
The greatest achievement America can make is not in technology, infrastructure, or capital markets. It’s our children,Melania Trump stated at the event.
President Donald Trump and the first lady were accompanied by notable figures such as FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks, Penske Corporation chairman Roger Penske, and IndyCar president Doug Boles. University representatives and IndyCar drivers also attended, along with youths from the foster care community.
Eric Shanks, hailing from Indiana and an Indiana University alumnus, emphasized the value of investing in America’s future. Today, that commitment takes on an entirely new meaning,
Shanks mentioned.
Additionally, members of the FOX Sports IndyCar broadcast team were present. A car adorned with “Be Best” and Fostering the Future logos was prominently displayed.
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix marks the first auto race on the National Mall, celebrating America’s 250th birthday. The race will be broadcast live on FS1, FS2, and FOX, and will also stream on FOX One.
Each race car will feature decals supporting the initiative. Melania Trump initially launched Fostering the Future in 2021 to provide college access and support for foster youth. Though less than 3% of former foster youths obtain a college degree, the first lady aims to bridge this gap with the new funding.
