Conflict has devastated the local health system in Abyei, leaving many remote villages without basic healthcare services. In these areas, even the most fundamental medical needs are unmet.

In April, following eye surgeries in Abyei, villagers waited for their bandages to be removed. The surgeries were part of an outreach initiative by a small medical team led by Dr. Lloyd Williams.

Dr. Williams and his team faced significant challenges. They flew into one of the world’s most dangerous regions, where a temporary ceasefire had been declared by conflicting parties. Their mission was critical as they aimed to provide much-needed medical assistance.
