Mayor Zohran Mamdani Supports New York City Congressional Candidates with TV Ad

On Wednesday night, a new television advertisement featuring Mayor Zohran Mamdani was unveiled during the postgame coverage of the New York Knicks’ Game 1 victory in the NBA finals. The focus of the 30-second ad was on promoting three Democrats vying for House seats in New York City.

The purpose of the ad was to boost the candidacies of Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, and Brad Lander. These candidates have been endorsed by Mayor Mamdani and aim to stand out in competitive House primaries in the city. Mr. Lander and Ms. Avila Chevalier are challenging incumbents, while Ms. Valdez seeks election to an open seat.

“This is the team,” Mr. Mamdani states in the advertisement, which was filmed on a Knicks-themed basketball court. “This is our year.”

Produced by Morris Katz, the mayor’s top political advisor, the ad’s regional TV placement incurred a cost of approximately $110,000. This expense was divided among the three congressional campaigns.

In a written statement, Mr. Mamdani remarked, “It’s a new era in Knicks’ basketball, and it’s time for the same in our politics too.” He highlighted the qualities of the candidates, saying they show a fighting spirit, selflessness, and a love for New York that would benefit the city.
