Max Domi Faces Uncertainty After Surgery

Max Domi, a forward for the Toronto Maple Leafs, is facing an interruption in his NHL career due to recent surgery. On May 25, the Maple Leafs announced that Domi had undergone a surgical procedure to address an issue he played with during the 2025-26 season. The exact nature of the procedure remains unspecified, but the team stated that Domi would be out indefinitely due to post-surgery complications.

Despite the unexpected timing of the announcement during the offseason, Domi had participated in 80 games for the team this past season. He had been a key player since signing with the Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2023, playing a minimum of 74 games in each season.

Reports indicate that the surgery was related to Domi’s back. Following the procedure, Domi was reportedly unable to walk, raising significant concerns. The decision for Domi to choose his own surgeon, rather than the one recommended by the Leafs, is noted to be common in professional sports today.

Whatever happened here wasn’t deemed successful. Apparently, Domi could not walk in the days following surgery, which created significant alarm, Steve Simmons reported. His status remains in doubt for the coming season.

During his time with the Maple Leafs, Domi has been a significant contributor. He scored 12 goals and recorded 36 points over the past season. Previously, in the 2018-19 NHL season with the Montreal Canadiens, he achieved a career-high of 72 points.

As Domi navigates this challenging period, his future with the Maple Leafs hangs in the balance.
