Fox News’ Steve Doocy recently spoke with comedian Matt Rife during a tour stop to discuss his evolving comedy career. Rife shared how viral TikTok videos have reshaped his professional journey, the influence of faith in his life, and his experiences performing for large audiences.
On Fox & Friends, Rife explained that social media has fundamentally changed the way comedians enter the entertainment industry. TikTok’s viral clips provided him breakthroughs that the traditional route through Hollywood comedy clubs could not achieve. Once planning to succeed by performing in iconic spots like the Laugh Factory and Comedy Store, Rife found himself struggling before social media altered his trajectory.
Initially, he experienced early success with MTV’s Wild ‘N Out. However, after moving from Ohio to Los Angeles, he faced setbacks, ending up at what he describes as a professional low point. Rife’s income before his online fame ranged between $40,000-60,000 annually, which was considered “very low income” given the cost of living in Los Angeles.
After joining TikTok, Rife now reports a net worth of $40-50 million. Despite initially disliking TikTok, he amassed over 20.3 million followers, demonstrating its unparalleled reach. His subsequent opportunities include starring alongside Owen Wilson in the upcoming film Rolling Loud: The Movie, which releases on October 2.
For Rife, Wilson is an indispensable figure in comedy and acting, making this new role a dream come true. The chance to learn from someone he admires adds substantial value to his growing career.
