A 67-year-old man’s attempt to find a “sugar baby” ended with serious charges after he allegedly pointed a rifle at a 22-year-old following a vehicular incident. According to his arrest report, David Allen O’Brien, a resident of The Villages in central Florida, faces charges of aggravated assault.
The arrest report indicates O’Brien pursued a 21-year-old woman, with whom he had a “sugar baby” agreement, after ramming her car with his truck. The arrangement began on the dating app Tinder, where O’Brien expressed his wish to find a sugar baby, a relationship commonly involving an older man supporting a younger woman financially.
The pair arranged to meet on July 21. O’Brien offered the woman $1,000 per visit, promising dinner and shopping excursions. Upon meeting, O’Brien gave the woman $200 before taking her shopping for lingerie and then to dinner, where he provided an additional $600. After dinner, they went to his home, but the woman reportedly felt uncomfortable and contacted friends to pick her up.
According to the arrest report, O’Brien began massaging the woman’s feet while she was on her phone. The woman then mentioned calling an Uber, prompting O’Brien to demand the return of the money, claiming the agreement had not been met. As she left in her friends’ car, O’Brien allegedly pursued them in his Ford F-150 truck.
At a traffic circle, O’Brien reportedly rammed the car, causing it to crash into a telephone pole. Three passengers fled, but a 22-year-old male passenger faced O’Brien, who allegedly aimed a gun at him. The victim managed to escape when O’Brien became distracted.
Police discovered O’Brien at the scene with his weapon. He claimed the car’s tail lights were blacked out, believing he’d been “scammed.”
O’Brien was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without the intent to kill and aggravated battery. He was taken to Sumter County Jail without further incident.
