Major Baseball Trades and Upcoming Phillies vs. Orioles Matchup

The trade market in baseball has gained momentum following recent transactions. Yesterday saw significant moves, with two prominent pitchers changing teams. Luis Castillo, experiencing a challenging season, was traded from the Mariners to the White Sox. Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal joined the Dodgers, bolstering their lineup. This acquisition positions the Dodgers as strong contenders for another championship.

Today, two teams worth noting, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles, will face off. The Phillies have experienced ups and downs this season. Early difficulties led to a managerial change, which could have been addressed during the offseason. Following this shake-up, the Phillies emerged as a leading team for a few months. Currently, they sit five games above .500 and appear to be embroiled in a wild card race.

Zack Wheeler is a standout pitcher for the Phillies. Against the New York Mets, during the second inning of a game held on September 17, 2021, Wheeler’s performance was notable. This season, Wheeler holds a 10-2 record with a 2.53 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP. Despite a couple of challenging starts in July, he still managed three quality outings. Orioles hitters have recorded a .250 average against Wheeler in 68 at-bats.

The Baltimore Orioles are also facing challenges, having remained consistent in their performance throughout the year. With a record three games below .500, they have yet to show signs of breaking ahead. Talent is present within the team, but not every season sees success. Gunner Henderson’s .220 average reflects difficulty but does not alone account for Baltimore’s lack of success.

Pitching seems to be a weak spot for the Orioles, especially given their thin rotation. Despite some strong arms and recent improvements in their bullpen, a reliable starter is lacking. Kyle Bradish is perhaps the closest to this need, starting in today’s game. His last outing wasn’t favorable, resulting in 10 hits and five earned runs over 4.2 innings. Phillies hitters recorded a .188 average against Bradish over 32 at-bats.

While betting wisdom might lean towards selecting Wheeler and the Phillies, the Orioles have shown slightly better form recently. This game is crucial for both teams to gain momentum and secure a win in the series. Bradish is anticipated to show improvement in his performance, potentially surprising against Wheeler. Despite betting odds favoring the Phillies, consideration of Bradish’s potential rebound adds interest to backing the Orioles at their current odds.
