Linda Purl, known for her role in “Happy Days,” celebrated her 71st birthday by picking up a cake and groceries from a Gelson’s Market in Los Angeles. Purl, who played Fonzie’s fiancée Ashley Pfister, also appeared as a different character dating Richie Cunningham in an earlier season.
Purl continues to be active in the entertainment industry with roles on shows like “General Hospital” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.” She also stars in “Hollywood Grit” alongside her partner Patrick Duffy and Tyrese Gibson. Additionally, Purl released a new album, “From My Heart,” featuring classics from the Great American Songbook and jazz.
She is currently performing in an off-Broadway one-woman play titled “Crazy Mama,” directed by her former co-star Anson Williams. The play is written by Anson’s wife, Sharon Scott Williams.
“The play is directed by my dear friend of many decades now, fellow actor, Anson Williams,” Purl told BroadwayWorld.
Apart from her acting career, Purl co-founded a sourdough bread company with Duffy. The company aims to address food scarcity, with profits going toward related efforts. They have partnered with Kroger, distributing bread to over 2,300 stores nationwide, which significantly increased their contributions to food scarcity relief.
Purl recounted her initial role in “Happy Days,” which came after a successful audition. Years later, she returned to the show as a different character, an experience she fondly remembers.
“Everything about that set was fun. The regular cast members were all friends and they’ve remained lifelong friends… We are a tight bunch,” she said. The positive atmosphere of the set left a lasting impression on her.
