A legal immigrant from Trinidad, Kris Ramsingh, shared his thoughts with Fox News Digital on the impact of birth tourism and illegal immigration on those who follow the legal process to come to the U.S. Ramsingh, who became a U.S. citizen after a decade-long journey, expressed his support for former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.
Ramsingh, a Virginia business owner, emphasized the efforts required for legal immigration. He highlighted the federal requirements, including vaccine proof, personal documentation, a criminal background check, and proof of financial stability, which he had to satisfy before becoming a citizen.
Having immigrated in 2006 and becoming a citizen in 2015, Ramsingh described illegal immigration as disrespectful to those who work hard to enter the country legally. Ramsingh celebrated his and his wife’s anniversary of arriving in the U.S. during the Independence Day week, noting their journey began with only $300 and a few suitcases.
Ramsingh has established his life in Roanoke, Virginia, where he has lived since 2006. As a business owner, he founded Dominion Custom Upholstery 13 years ago and expanded into boatworks and interior repairs. He also launched Dominion Project International, a missionary organization that travels to India, Africa, and the Caribbean to provide gospel, potable water, and medical supplies.
With a strong sense of pride in the American flag, Ramsingh recounted his appreciation for the U.S., which dates back to an experience in Trinidad in 1990. During a coup by Muslim insurgents, American soldiers provided safety with their presence, leading to his appreciation for the country.
Ramsingh believes in the American Dream, where hard work and perseverance can lead to success. He values the freedom the American flag represents, especially during the Fourth of July celebrations. Ramsingh expressed his sense of security and pride as an American citizen, feeling a sense of home when returning from abroad.
Addressing criticism against Trump as anti-immigrant, Ramsingh disagreed, stating that Republicans favor legal immigration. He voiced concerns about the Biden administration’s open border policy, viewing it as an invasion rather than immigration.
Although deportation stories can be challenging, Ramsingh attributed them to lenient enforcement of immigration laws over the years. As someone who grew up in and conducts missions in third-world countries, Ramsingh understands why people wish to come to America. Yet, he insists that immigration should be conducted legally.
Ramsingh noted that Trump and the U.S. government do not owe immigrants anything, emphasizing the privilege of being in America. His experiences reinforce his belief in legal immigration and the opportunities America offers.
