LeBron James Comments on Free Agency and ‘Trust the Process’

On Friday, LeBron James participated in a live episode of “The Shop” at Fanatic Fest in New York City. During the event, he talked about his ongoing free agency situation.

While outlining his priorities for the next team, James used the phrase “trust the process.” This expression is closely associated with the Philadelphia 76ers’ extensive rebuilding strategy initiated by former general manager Sam Hinkie in 2013. The 76ers are among the leading candidates to sign James as a free agent.

James expressed his desires clearly, stating, “I want to compete at a high level. I want to join a franchise that kind of shares the same motto as myself. That’s practicing championship habits everyday, but trusting the process more than anything. You trust the process…”

The audience reacted to this statement, sensing a potential link to the 76ers. However, James quickly clarified his position, saying, “I’ve been saying ‘trust the process’ since I was drafted in 2003.”

James noted that his use of the phrase predates its association with the 76ers.

The 76ers are gearing up for the 2026-27 season with a strong lineup. They recently acquired superstar guard Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics, creating a dynamic core with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe.

Besides the 76ers, other teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Golden State Warriors, and Minnesota Timberwolves are also reportedly keen on adding James to their rosters.
